Project Manager with Technical Background
Have you worked for a few years as a developer, designer, or systems engineer and are ready to take the next step towards project management? Then this could be the right opportunity for you.
We are looking for someone with a technical background and an interest in leading and driving projects. In this role, you will have a fantastic opportunity to start your journey in project management in a high-tech environment, where you work closely with various parts of the organization and grow into the role with support from experienced colleagues.
About the Role of Project Manager
At BAE Systems, all customer deliveries are driven by projects, which means that project managers play a central role in coordinating, driving, and following up on work. As a junior project manager, you will support senior project managers by connecting different parts of the development department, such as designers and systems engineers, and contribute to high-quality deliveries of finished products to the end customer. As a junior project manager, you will gradually grow into the role. Initially, you will focus on supporting projects with defined tasks, with the goal of eventually taking on greater responsibility and driving your own projects.
The project manager is involved early in the process, starting with the quotation work. Projects often span several years from the request arriving to the delivery of the products. The highest intensity occurs during 15–20 months from the order. As a project manager, you may be involved in several different projects simultaneously.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting senior project managers in daily project work.
- Working closely with systems engineers and designers to steer and drive development work towards set goals.
- Participating in requirement setting and developing specifications for subcontractors.
- Assisting with documentation, follow-up, and practical support in the various phases of projects.
- Contributing to ensuring that technical solutions meet customer requirements and lead to a finished product.
- Being involved in coordinating the project team's activities, without responsibility for scheduling or budget initially.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 2–3 years of work experience (e.g., as a designer or systems engineer with documented experience of some form of design responsibility).
- Experience working in a project-based environment.
- Fluency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Willingness to travel in the role, both in Sweden and internationally, approximately 4–5 trips per year.
- Swedish citizenship and security interview.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Software Development (embedded and/or application) C/C++.
- Experience from the defense industry.
- Experience from companies in similar sectors, e.g., automotive and mining industries.
- Driver's license.
- Experience in project management within a relevant field.
Your Profile
We are looking for someone who is curious, has a strong desire to develop, and sees the big picture in what you do. You are solution-focused, self-driven, and take initiative to find information. At the same time, you are humble and enjoy collaborating with others. The role requires you to handle many parallel tasks, have patience in complex processes, and work effectively at the interfaces with several different departments.
